Today’s Science Lesson


I love how simple homeschooling can be. Today we actually had some sunshine, so I sent Hannah and Audrey out in our 1/2 acre yard each with a shoebox. I told them to collect things in them – whatever they found. Yes, we did end up with one piece of broken glass (hmmm), and a plastic bottle cap, but we also had sand, rocks, sticks, and snow.

So we looked at the rocks – what color are they? Are they smooth or rough? Do they sparkle? Are they round like a circle or do they have corners like a square? We pulled the bark off the stick. We looked at the sand and saw how it’s made of tiny rocks. We talked about what happens when snow melts and mixes with sand. Free, simple, and easy!
